Everest Forecast 9 april

General weather conditions on the mountain

The high winds at the upper levels are the main concern of every Everest climber. These high wind are caused by the Jet stream that can be found generally around 8-9000meter. The jet stream is related to the polar front that marks the difference between the polar airmass to the North and the subtropical airmass to the South. The altitude of the jet is marked by the tropopause which is the transision zone between the lowest part of the atmosphere, the troposphere, and the adjacent layer the stratosphere.

The best weather window to climb Everest is end of April beginning of June because than the Monsoon pushes the cold air (and consequently the jet stream) further to the North. This means that the wind is significantly less during this part of the year than any other time of the year. Also just around fall there is a little weather window, but usually less confident.

Climbers must take in account that this ’spring window’ is prone to important changes due to global climate change.

This forecast is made for Albert Bosch, who climbes the seventh of his seven summits. You will find a wind forecast for every camp level, indicated below. Also an indication of the average air temperature and general weather conditions is given.
