Gurney reports from the Attitude Kite-Surf Camp in Daklar
What a great place to rehabilitate! There are a multitude of humans here, running water, cold showers and electricity.
The kiting is fantastic.
The lads did a record 180 kms the day before yesterday! The UN has warned us about the likelihood of landmines. So they had to stick to the roads or the beach. The beach is cliffs, so the lads had to stick to the verges beside the road. They consistently averaged 35km per hour. There is an irony though.
The terrain around here is the best I’ve ever seen for buggying. But we can’t use it for the land-mines. The road is a bit prohibitive because of the danger of traffic and because there is no room to wash off any excess speed. Given the freedom to travel in the wide open plains, our buggiers could have gotten up to higher speeds.
Yesterday the lad sgot into the Kite School here at 3:30 pm to a welcoming crowd. IN fact the crowd couldn’t believe that we’d come from Agadir, so there was an excited energy in the crowd.
We’ve had a recovery day today, repairing torn kites and broken buggies, writing our blogs and catching up on sleep. I’m still spitting out blood from my bruised sinuses, but it’s rapidly improving. My shoulder is improving daily and I’m getting increased range of movement by a few cms a day.
I’m still part of the team, so I’ll likely leave with the lads tomorrow getting towed by my team-mate Craig to test how I cope with the jostling. I’ll likely test flying a kite the following day.
